Product information

Phlegmin  is an expectorant that thins the secretions from the respiratory tract and thus facilitates the clearing of the bronchi.  The drug is used for wet cough.

The writing

The active ingredient is  Bromhexine hydrochloride (  Bromhexini hydrochloridum  ).

1 tablet contains 8 mg of bromhexine hydrochloride.

Excipients  : lactose monohydrate, sodium carboxymethyl starch, magnesium stearate.

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.  Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Preparation for oral administration.

Usually the drug is used as follows:

*   Flegamine tablets  are not recommended for  children aged 3 to 6 who cannot swallow tablets, in which case syrup is recommended.

• When using the drug, it is recommended to drink more liquid.
• Do not use before bed.
• The drug should be taken at regular intervals after meals.
• The medicine is usually used for 7 to 10 days.  If symptoms worsen or do not improve, contact your doctor.
• If you have the impression that the effect of the medicine is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor.

Bromohexine hydrochloride belongs to the group of mucolytic drugs, the action of which is to thin the mucous secretions lying in the bronchial tree.  Bromohexine facilitates the expectoration of thick secretions, and also improves the function of the ciliary epithelium.

Side effects

Use of other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or may be taking any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

• Bromohexine should be used with caution with atropine and other anticholinergic agents, as they cause dry mucous membranes. 
• Do not use the drug together with cough suppressants (for example, those containing codeine or its derivatives), as they can weaken the cough reflex and cause secretion in the airways.
• Simultaneous administration of the drug with antibiotics (oxytetracycline, erythromycin, ampicillin, doxycycline, cefuroxime, amoxicillin) increases their concentration in the lung parenchyma.

Taking the drug with food and drink

The drug  Flegamine  is used after meals.

Pregnancy and lactation

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you are pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Do not use the drug in the first three months of pregnancy.
Throughout pregnancy, the drug should be used only if, in the opinion of the doctor, the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.

The use of the drug in children and adolescents

Flegamine tablets should not be used  in  children aged 3 to 6 years who cannot swallow tablets.  Bromohexine syrup is recommended for these patients.

Due to the content of bromohexine, this drug should not be given to children under 2 years of age.

Use caution as you may experience headache and dizziness or drowsiness.
